I’ve always been interested in how people make meaning, and how communication can make our worlds more humane, equitable, and…frankly, just workable.

That impulse guides my work across public health, government, tech, nonprofit + philanthropy, and agency sectors, whether I’m shaping a campaign, redesigning a complex website, or helping leaders understand what their communities need.

I bring 12+ years of experience and a PhD in rhetoric, which has trained me to understand patterns in how people think, decide, and respond to language, power, and systems. In practice, that means translating research and insight into strategies that move audiences, build trust, and improve how institutions function.

I'm here in Portland with my two sons. And I'm passionate about human equity, pop culture, yoga, humane tech, behavioral economics, and slow bike commuting. I write a newsletter. I meditate. A lot. Through that practice, I've come to feel deeply connected to and compassionate toward humankind. I bring this great love to all that I do, and most especially to my work.

My Approach

Human beings are really good at using language to confuse and “complexify.” I’m all about designing language in service to equity and understanding.

Aristotle’s triangle helps me with that. It brings together all the "things" (context, purpose, audience) to surface the right strategic approach. It’s simple and crisp, but also messy and human- reminding me to be plain, intentional, and humane.

Techne is a Greek idea. It’s productive knowledge, the type of knowledge that sits between practical and theoretical. Techne is the sort of knowing that makes ships, buildings, or, in this case, communications campaigns come into being. And because the end goal is human good, it always supports and/or is supported by a user experience lens. Communications is a techne.
